Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun is vital for making thyroid hormones, vitamin D and neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. UV light also produces nitric oxide which is vital for your blood vessels, blood pressure, immune system and mood.

UV light acts on a peptide called POMC and it produces peptides that make melanin and controls the leptin melanocortin pathway.
Leptin is one of the master hormones and it controls body weight,
appetite, bone metabolism, sex hormones and immunity and it is driven by light.
Knowing what I know now 20 yrs ago about circadian rhythms or body clocks would have made my life so much easier as I had no idea the right sort of light at the right time was vital
